Following extensive investigations police have identified two teenage boys who were involved in riding electric motorcycles at a Palm Beach sporting complex on 27 February.
It will be alleged that around 4.45pm, two teenage boys rode Surron electric motorcycles onto sporting fields off Mallawa Drive in a manner that was distressing for members of the public.
It will be further alleged that one of the boys towed a shopping trolley which he flung into public equipment, including a light pole and soccer goal, damaging them.
A 13-year-old Palm Beach boy and a 13-year-old Currumbin Waters boy were located by police and dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act this week in relation to five offences: unlawfully riding motorbike on public land, public nuisance, using unregistered motorbike, driving uninsured and unlicenced.
Additionally, the parents of the youths were warned regarding permitting the use of an unregistered motorcycle on the roads and the riders being unlicensed.
These offences can carry fines of more than $600, should the youths continue to be allowed to use the devices on the road.
Gold Coast police will continue to target and investigate offences committed by the use of these electric motor vehicles.
The community is reminded that there are strict laws governing the use of e-bikes and that, unless the bike complies with that legislation, it is classed as a motor vehicle and the requirements of a licence and registration apply.
