Detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern and Far North Tactical Crime Squad officers have charged a 42-year-old man as part of an ongoing operation targeting members and associates of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) in Cairns.
Operation Victor Jenga commenced in August 2023, to disrupt, gather intelligence and conduct enforcement actions in relation to OMCG activities and associates.
On 26 February, officers conducted a search warrant at a Mount Sheridan property and allegedly located a significant quantity of methylamphetamine, cocaine, cash, electronic devices, drug paraphernalia, two rifles, a shotgun, and a handgun.
It will be alleged the man was a member of the Mongols Organised Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) in Cairns.
He was arrested and charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of weapons category A, B OR M and possessing dangerous drugs Schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding Schedule 4, and one count each of unlawful possession of weapons Category D/H/R weapon, authority required to possess explosives, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act, and possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used.
He was remanded in custody to reappear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on 21 April.
Officer in Charge of the Major and Organised Crime Squad Far Northern Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said police are continuing to target OMCG members causing harm in the community.
“Our team is dedicated to stamping out this type of offending in the Far North and will continue to use intelligence-driven strategies to disrupt organised crime,” Detective Senior Sergeant Grace said.
“We want those who take part in the illegal, anti-social and violent behaviours associated with OMCGs to expect the full force of the law, and a date with a magistrate.”
