Moreton Police have issued traffic infringement notices for a high-speed offence and failing to stop at Moreton on Wednesday 25 February.
Around 8.45pm, a mobile speed camera detected a white Volkswagen Golf hatchback allegedly travelling 133km/h along the Bruce Highway at the Bribie Island interchange.
A short time later, officers from the Moreton North Highway Patrol Group, conducting speed enforcement on the Bruce Highway at Elimbah, detected the same vehicle allegedly travelling 222km/h in the northbound lane. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but were unsuccessful due to the high speed.
Following further investigations, and with the assistance of members of the public, police were able to contact the driver, who agreed to meet police at Reed Street in Glasshouse Mountains.
A 19-year-old Morayfield man was issued with a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km. He was fined $1919 and eight demerit points, and had his licence suspended for six months.
The man was also fined $1001 for failing to stop a vehicle for prescribed purpose without reasonable excuse.
Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance.
