Detectives have charged two people following ongoing investigations into a fatal traffic crash at Stapylton in the early hours of Saturday, 25 October.
It will be alleged that around 5am, a 22-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man, a 3-year-old boy and a 1-year-old boy were travelling in a vehicle along Eastern Service Road when the vehicle crashed.
The 3-year-old passenger sustained significant head injuries.
The boy and the 22-year-old woman were transported by a member of the public to Beenleigh Police Station, where the child was declared deceased.
Around 6.30am, police located the 24-year-old man and the 1-year-old boy at a Beenleigh address. The 1-year-old was transported to hospital for assessment and was later cleared.
Police subsequently launched Operation Xray Grid, with officers from the Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit and other specialist units undertaking extensive forensic, mechanical and investigative inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
As a result of those investigations, police have determined the woman – who was 22 years old at the time of the incident and is now 23 years old – was allegedly driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
A 23-year-old Labrador woman has been charged with one count each of manslaughter domestic violence offence against a child, trafficking in dangerous drugs, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence and possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in Part 2.
A 24-year-old Beenleigh man has been charged with one count each of manslaughter domestic violence offence against a child and trafficking in dangerous drugs.
Both are due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 27 February.
Investigations remain ongoing.
