A six-month operation targeting the possession and supply of drugs and illegal firearms in the Toowoomba area has concluded.
Operation Xray Ambrose, led by Toowoomba Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), involved the use of overt and covert policing methodologies, resulting in the arrest of 103 people on 942 charges.
Commencing in August last year, officers executed 80 search warrants with assistance from the Darling Downs Tactical Crime Squad, Public Safety Response Team (PSRT), State Flying Squad and Taskforce Maxima, resulting in the seizure of more than $120,894 along with 674 grams of methylamphetamine,19.4 grams of heroin, a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and the seizure of 15 illegal firearms including a 9mm Glock handgun.
Police will allege the Glock handgun was stolen during a burglary in Harristown in December 2024.
Police have charged 15 people with trafficking offences. They are set to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court over the next two months.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker, Officer in Charge of Toowoomba CIB, said the six-month operation had netted some good results with a sizeable amount of drugs and illegal firearms being removed from the community.
“This operation aimed to do more than simply remove drugs and illegal weapons from the streets; it was about causing disruption to local drug supply chains,” Detective Senior Sergeant McCusker said.
“These arrests demonstrate the Queensland Police Service’s commitment to keeping the community safe and instils confidence that law enforcement is pursuing illegal activity.
“We continue to urge any members of the public who may have information regarding the supply of illicit drugs or firearms to contact police to help keep our community safe.”
