Police have charged two boys, aged 14 and 16, following an investigation into a number of break and enter and motor vehicle offences in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley.

Around 4.30pm on 13 February, the two boys attended a McCleverty Court address in Cotswold Hills where it is alleged one of the offenders stole a set of car keys from inside the property before attempting to leave the scene in a 2022 Jeep Gladiator where he was confronted by a male resident.

It is then alleged a physical altercation took place where the offender threatened the victim with a hammer before punching him a number of times.

The offender then fled the scene on foot and was intercepted by the male resident a short time later before police arrived and took both boys into custody.

A 42-year-old Cotswold Hills man was treated on scene for minor injuries.

Police will further allege on 3 February the two boys broke into a 2017 Holden Commodore at a Maroske Road address in Plainland stealing a wallet before leaving the scene.

The 16-year-old is also alleged to have gained entry into a Campbell Street property in Toowoomba around 9.20am on 3 February where he stole bank cards before leaving the scene.

On 4 February, the boy is alleged to have stolen a 2016 Toyota Hilux from a Howard Court address in Plainland.

The vehicle was located by police a short distance away on Howard Court on 4 February.

A 16-year-old Newtown boy has been charged with 22 offences including five counts of Unlawful use of motor vehicle, three counts each of stealing and enter dwelling and commit, attempted enter dwelling with intent, attempted enter premise with intent to commit indictable offence, receiving tainted property, and driving of motor vehicle without driver licence and one count each of enter dwelling with intent, enter premise and commit indictable offence, attempted armed robbery in company, armed robbery in company.

A 14-year-old Newtown boy has been charged with 10 offences including three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count each of attempted armed robbery in company, armed robbery in company, enter dwelling and commit, enter dwelling with intent, attempted enter dwelling, stealing and unlicensed driving.

Both boys have been remanded in custody to appear in the Toowoomba Childrens Court on 19 February.
