Police have charged two teenage boys following two attempted armed robberies at a shopping centre in Thuringowa on Friday, 13 February.
Police will allege around 9.30am the two boys approached a Toyota Corolla parked in the shopping centre car park in which an 83-year-old woman was seated in the driver’s seat.
It is alleged one of the offenders opened the driver’s side door and attempted to remove her car keys from the ignition.
After a brief struggle with the driver, the offender was unable to remove the keys. Both boys then left the area.
It is then alleged around 10am at the opposite end of the carpark, the same offenders approached a 29-year-old woman and threatened her with a knife while demanding her car key.
The woman fled and the offenders did not obtain the key.
No one was physically harmed in either incident.
The offenders were identified by witness reports and CCTV footage and were arrested at 10.54am.
The 14-year-old boy was charged with enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence, attempted stealing, serious assault person over 60, attempted armed robbery, common assault and commit public nuisance.
The 12-year-old boy was charged with attempted armed robbery.
They are both due to appear in Townsville Childrens Court on 20 February.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact police.
