Detectives from the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 47-year-old man following investigations into the alleged theft of a vehicle from Helensvale and subsequent dangerous driving incidents in Surfers Paradise and burglary at Burleigh Heads.

It will be alleged that around 8am on 6 February, the man entered a business on John Overall Drive at Helensvale via a loading dock, removed a set of keys, and stole a blue 2013 Kia Rio.

Police will further allege that, around 10.30pm on 12 February, the stolen Kia Rio was parked in a car park on Beach Road at Surfers Paradise, where the driver exited the vehicle and caused damage to a security gate before driving away.

At approximately 10.50pm, police attended Beach Avenue, where it is alleged that officers observed the Kia Rio perform an illegal turn at a traffic light intersection in an attempt to avoid police.

The vehicle was subsequently monitored by police and through CCTV as it travelled through the Surfers Paradise area.

Around 5.15am on 13 February, it is alleged that police located the man at a business on Park Avenue at Burleigh Heads, during a burglary.

It will be alleged that officers located the keys to the stolen Kia Rio in his possession. The stolen vehicle was later located parked nearby on Park Avenue at Burleigh Heads.

The 47-year-old Kingston man has been charged with four counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence and one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, unlawful use of motor vehicles aircraft or vessels, evasion offence at night, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence, wilful damage, possess thing intended for use in connection with offence, stealing, possessing dangerous drugs, fail to properly dispose of needle and syringe and possess utensils or pipes etc for use.

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, 14 February.
