Detectives from Toowoomba’s Property Crime Unit have charged a 23-year-old man with 28 offences following multiple property offences and an armed robbery with violence incident in Toowoomba on 9 February.
Around 8.10pm, it is alleged a man entered a Margaret Street address in East Toowoomba stealing a handbag and a set of car keys before leaving the scene in a stolen 2021 Volvo V60.
No one was physically injured.
Then around 10.50pm, four men attended a Madonna Circuit address in Middle Ridge in the stolen Volvo where it is alleged, they attempted to break into several properties before entering a 2012 Rang Rover Evoque and stealing interior lights before attempting to break into a Menzies Street address in Middle Ridge.
Nothing was stolen from the property and the group left the scene.
Police will further allege at around 11.30pm the four men attended a Thorley Street property in the stolen Volvo before two of the men used a garden tool to gain entry through a window and into the home.
Once inside it is alleged one of the male offenders threatened a 42-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl with an axe demanding money and car keys before stealing a bag and a computer and leaving the scene in the victim’s vehicle, a white 2022 C300 Mercedes-Benz.
Both the 42-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl were not physically injured.
It is then alleged the four men attempted to break into a property on Lanagan Court in Middle Ridge before breaking into a White Toyota Landcruiser on Pugh Street in Middle Ridge and stealing property.
Around 8.30pm on 10 February, a 23-year-old man is alleged to have attempted to break into a Maloney Street address in North Toowoomba while armed with an axe.
Nothing was stolen and the offender left the scene.
Police located the stolen Mercedes and Volvo at a Stuart Street address at Mt Lofty on 10 February.
Following investigations officers from the Darling Downs District Tactical Crime Squad (TCS) attended a Hume Street address in South Toowoomba on 11 February taking a 23-year-old South Toowoomba man into custody.
He has been charged with eight counts of burglary, six counts of enter premises and commit, four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possess break implement, two counts possess dangerous drugs, and one count each of armed robbery, attempted enter premises with intent, possess knife in a public place and wilful damage.
He is due to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on 13 February.
Detectives are continuing investigations to identify other persons involved and are appealing for anyone with relevant information or CCTV footage to contact police.
