The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating a fatal traffic crash in Southern Downs yesterday morning, 1 January.

Two vehicles collided on the New England Highway near Rosenthal Heights around 9.55am.

The driver of one of the vehicles sustained critical injuries and was transported to Warwick Hospital but was declared deceased a short time later.

The driver of the second vehicle also sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital.

Officers are appealing to anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to contact police.
