Police have charged a man with the grievous bodily harm of a 62-year-old man at Southport Saturday night, 22 November.

It will be alleged that around 11.30pm, the 62-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were talking around the intersection of Scarborough Street and Railway Street when the 32-year-old man punched the 62-year-old to the left side of the face.

The 62-year-old man fell to the ground, striking his head on the roadway.

Emergency services attended where they located the 62-year-old man unconscious.

The 32-year-old man presented himself to officers upon their arrival.

The 62-year-old man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition where he remains in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police have now charged a 32-year-old Coombabah man with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today, 24 November.

Investigations remain ongoing.
