A 50-year-old Manoora man has died following a serious assault in Manunda on Thursday, 6 November.

Officers were called to Alfred and Koch Street around 1.40pm following reports the man sustained life-threatening head injuries.

Cairns West police administered first aid before emergency services arrived, and the man was transported to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition.

He passed away in hospital on Friday, 7 November.

A 35-year-old Parramatta Park appeared before Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, 7 November, charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

Police have since upgraded his charges to one count of manslaughter.

He is scheduled to reappear before Cairns Magistrates Court on 1 January.
