Police are investigating a serious three-vehicle traffic crash on the Pacific Motorway at Merrimac this morning.
Around 8.45am, emergency services were called to the southbound lanes, around Exit 77, following reports of a crash involving a truck and two vehicles.
Initial investigations indicate a 54-year-old man was driving a white 2012 Isuzu Fxz tanker truck when it collided with a silver 2010 Ford Territory station-wagon driven by a 41-year-old woman and a grey 2018 Hyundai 130 hatchback driven by a 71-year-old woman.
The 41-year-old driver sustained a head injury and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
The 71-year-old driver sustained minor bruising and was transported to Robina Hospital in a stable condition.
The 54-year-old driver and his 18-year-old male passenger were also transported to Robina Hospital as a precaution.
Two of the three southbound lanes have been closed while the Forensic Crash Unit investigates.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area as long delays are expected.
