Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at 3pm today, 6 August in relation to a fire at Bowen.
Emergency services were called around 2.30pm to a Linley Street address in relation to a fire.
An exclusion zone has been established while emergency services respond. The exclusion zone encompasses the Bruce Highway at the railway underpass at Mirinda, Albeitz Road, Mirinda Railway Compound and Smith Road to Champion Street.
Local evacuations are taking place. Residents within the area are asked to stay indoors with their windows and doors closed. Members of the public are urged to avoid the area.
