Officers from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 72-year-old Palm Cove man following alleged assaults around Cairns earlier this year.
Police will allege around 6pm on May 9, the man was driving a taxi and picked up a 76-year-old woman near Cairns Hospital.
The man drove the woman to a Manunda address, before helping her inside and allegedly touching her inappropriately.
It is further alleged around 4am on May 17, the man was driving a rideshare vehicle with a 27-year-old female passenger.
As the vehicle arrived at a Woree address, the man allegedly touched the woman inappropriately before she exited the vehicle.
The man has been charged with three counts of sexual assault and is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 24.
Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch Plain Clothes Senior Constable Amelia Farrows from says police are appealing for anyone who may have information about the man to come forward.
“This type of offending is not tolerated in our community, and police will investigate all complaints thoroughly,” Senior Constable Farrows said.
“Due to the nature of the offending, we believe there may be further alleged victims who have experienced inappropriate behaviour or touching while riding in a taxi or rideshare, and we encourage you to contact police if you have information.
