Police have charged a man after an allegedly stolen motorcycle was observed driving on the wrong side of the road in Mount Gravatt last night, June 24.

At approximately 8pm, a patrolling Upper Mount Gravatt Highway Patrol officer observed an alleged stolen Yamaha motorcycle with two passengers travelling on the wrong side of Logan Road.

It will be alleged when the officer intercepted the stolen vehicle at traffic lights, the driver, a 42-year-old Wishart man, attempted to flee.

The officer arrested the pair with the assistance of members of the public.

A 42-year-old Wishart man has been charged with five counts of serious assault police officer, two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing property suspected of having been used.

He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, June 25.

The man has also been issued with traffic infringement notices for driving uninsured motor vehicle ($645 fine) and possess something that resembles a number plate ($387 fine).

A 31-year-old Upper Mount Gravatt woman has been charged with one count of serious assault police officer and is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 8.

South Brisbane District Inspector Stephen Gough says dangerous driving offences of this nature have an increased likelihood of a serious, potentially fatal, accident.

“There is zero excuse for unsafe driving behaviours. Not only do acts of this nature put the driver at risk, but they are also risking the lives of every other road user who crosses their path.”

“Highway patrol officers are working hard every day conducting proactive patrols and road enforcement activities to detect and prevent dangerous driving behaviours.”

As of June 24, 15 lives have been lost on roads in Brisbane’s south in 2025. This is six more lives lost then this time last year.
