Police have charged a woman with driving under the influence following reports of a stationary vehicle in the middle of a road in Chandler.
It will be alleged a 23-year-old Belmont woman, the driver of the vehicle, and a 45-year-old Carbrook male passenger were located under the influence of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate in the middle of Toronto Road around 9.15am, April 11.
It is further alleged the occupants of the vehicle disregarded emergency services advice and after beginning to drive were intercepted and arrested on Camrose Road by Capalaba general duties police.
Capalaba Station Officer in Charge, Senior Sergeant David Candale says driving offences of this nature can put lives at significant risk.
“Easter is one of our busiest times on the roads, and police are increasing roadside breath and drug testing to help keep all roads users safe.”
“Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a major cause of fatal and serious traffic crashes.”
“There is no excuse for putting our community, your passengers, or yourself at risk by driving when you are under the influence.”
As of April 11, 10 lives have been lost on Brisbane roads. Nine of those lives have been lost in Brisbane’s south, which is four more fatalities than this time last year.
Every life lost is one too many.
A 23-year-old Belmont woman, and driver of the vehicle, has been charged with one count each of driving under the influence and driving without a licence.
She is expected to appear before Cleveland Magistrates Court on May 12.
A 45-year-old Carbrook man has been issued with a drug diversion for possessing dangerous drugs and fail to properly dispose of a needle.
