Investigations are underway into the armed robbery of two teenage boys and a police vehicle rammed by a stolen SUV in what are believed to be linked incidents in Townsville overnight, January 21.
Around 10.18pm, the 14-year-old and 16-year-old boys were riding their e-scooters along Nathan Street, Vincent when they were approached by the occupants of two stolen vehicles who then stole their scooters and other property.
It is understood one of the offenders threatened the teens with a knife, concealed in the waistband of their pants.
The teenagers ran to the safety of a service station, however, were followed where the occupants of the stolen vehicles demanded keys for the scooters.
The offenders left the scene in the stolen Toyota Landcruiser, and a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander.
Then around 4.30am, January 22, as police were responding to reports of a vehicle on fire on Pilkington Street, Garbutt when the two stolen vehicles involved in the earlier armed robbery were identified by the attending officer.
The stolen Landcruiser followed the police vehicle, forcing officers to take evasive action and move off the road onto the footpath to avoid crashing into the SUV.
The Landcruiser then did a U-turn and rammed the police vehicle from behind twice before accelerating away at speed with the stolen Mitsubishi.
The Landcruiser was later found parked in a vacant block of land in Rosslea this morning, January 22.
Anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV is urged to contact police.
