A 79-year-old man has died following a fatal traffic crash in Birkdale this morning, January 20.

Initial investigations indicate around 11.30am, the man was travelling on a mobility scooter when he was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Old Cleveland Road and Buckingham Street.

The 79-year-old Birkdale man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition, where he later passed away due to his injuries.

The driver of the Audi Q5, a 34-year-old Birkdale man, was not physically injured.

Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are continuing.
