Update: The search and rescue operation has been stood down in Moreton bay. The vessel has been located, nil persons outstanding and the owner is aware and assisting police.

Earlier: Brisbane Water Police in conjunction with a number of marine authorities including the Coast Guard and Marine Rescue have launched a search and rescue operation off Bribie Island today, January 19.

The operation relates to a vessel, last sighted at 1:45pm about 7.5 kilometres off Bribie Island and observed to be adrift, taking on water, with no persons aboard.

The vessel is described as about 5-6 metres in length, open side console style sporting a dark coloured hull, white gunwales as well as a blue Bimini. An image of the vessel is below.

Police are appealing for anyone who recognises the vessel to contact water police on 3895 0333.
