The Forensic Crash Unit continues to appeal for witnesses following a fatal traffic crash at Alligator Creek on January 7.
Just before 5pm, a black Holden Utility was observed travelling at speed and dangerously on Hay Point Road before it travelled onto oncoming traffic and collided with a silver Kia sedan.
The driver of the Kia, a 58-year-old Ooralea man, died at the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate at approximately 4.30pm, the black Holden entered the Bruce Highway from Mackay Bucasia Road in Mount Pleasant and travelled north where it has turned left and proceeded south on the Mackay Ring road at excessive speeds. The vehicle has turned right onto Gordon Street, Bakers Creek where it has conducted a series of burnouts before again entering the Bruce Highway and proceeding south where it has been observed overtaking other vehicles in an unsafe manner heading south past Bakers Creek, Rosella, Chelona and through to Balbera. The vehicle was then observed doing a burnout around the roundabout of the Bruce Highway and Hay Point Road, before entering a Caravan Park at this location for a short period. The vehicle has conducted a series of burnouts at this location before entering the roadway and turn off at Alligator Creek proceeding east on Hay Point Road at high speed before it lost control and collided with the silver Kia sedan.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed or who have dashcam or CCTV vision of the black Holden leading up to the crash to come forward.
