Toowoomba highway patrol have fined a 41-year-old Meringandan West man $1,854 for speeding at 110km/h in a 60km/h speed zone on a motorcycle, North Toowoomba
It is alleged officers saw the motorcyclist speeding along Rutherford Street shortly before 7:30pm while they were conducting proactive patrols and they subsequently stopped him, January 5.
It is further alleged the rider said he had no idea he was travelling at that speed.
In 2024, 303 lives were lost on QLD roads. 77 of those fatalities were motorcyclists.
The fatal five, including speeding, continue to be leading causes of fatal crashes.
Toowoomba Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Kim Hill urges motorists to slow down to help prevent any more tragedies in 2025.
“Each live lost is one too many, travelling at excessive speeds is inexcusable and has been proven to risk your life and the lives of those around you.”
