Police have charged a 42-year-old Pinkenba man following an alleged armed robbery and assault at South Brisbane last night, December 15.

Around 6pm, emergency services were called to a location near Edmondstone Street and Cordelia Street following reports of an assault.

It will be alleged the 42-year-old man assaulted a 42-year-old Leichhardt man with a metal pole and stole the other man’s phone, before fleeing the scene on foot.

It will be further alleged the men were known to each other.

Upon arrival, officers conducted patrols of the nearby area and located the Pinkenba man at the intersection of Merivale Street and Melbourne Street and took him into custody.

The 42-year-old Leichhardt man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.  

The 42-year-old Pinkenba man has been charged with one count each of threatening violence, robbery armed and assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed.

He is due before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, December 16.
