The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has welcomed 122 recruits at the final graduation ceremony of 2024, rounding out a record-breaking year for recruitment.

More than 940 officers have now been inducted, with more than 2,200 applicants still in the pipeline heading into the new year – a 53 per cent increase on November 2023.

The twilight graduation wraps up a massive year for the QPS academies, which inducted the largest number of recruits in 26 years back in May, and just recently recorded the largest number of recruits in training across Brisbane and Townville.

Commissioner of Police, Steve Gollschewski APM, welcomed the new first year constables at Oxley last night, reflecting on the year’s efforts.

“The QPS has been passionately committed to our recruiting efforts and strategies, so it’s wonderful to welcome another large cohort of recruits to wrap up 2024,” Commissioner Gollschewski said.

“Interest in policing careers continues to grow and with a strong applicant pool in the pipeline, we’re hopeful of another record-breaking year in 2025.

“Our recruits represent the rich diversity of our service, underscoring our commitment to fostering a workforce that understands and supports the communities we serve.”

The recruits bring an array of experiences, including some who completed the Multicultural Recruit Preparation Pathway (MRPP), a program designed to support recruits from culturally diverse backgrounds.

The MRPP is a six-week course designed to support the needs of bilingual and culturally diverse participants to prepare them for success within the mainstream 36-week Recruit Training Program.

First Year Constable (FYC) Emmanuel Andruga, moved to Australia from Uganda in 2010 and undertook criminology and law studies to reinforce his skills to help him succeed through recruit training.

“The MRPP was instrumental in me settling into the mainstream recruit training program with ease,” Constable Andruga said.

“In addition to supporting my recruitment journey, the MRPP program allowed me to build strong peer networks and gain a better understanding of policing in Queensland in a supportive and small group setting.”
