An Uber driver who pretended to be an Australian Federal Police officer before gaining entry into two sex workers’ Adelaide hotel room and raping one of the women during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown could be released from jail as early as mid 2025.

Shivan Suresh Agravat, 35, pleaded guilty to rape and deception two days into his trial in October this year

The Adelaide District Court previously heard he printed a fake police ID and bought a gun holster, gel blaster and fake handcuffs in the lead-up to the offence.

The father-of-two and permanent resident told the women what they were doing was illegal and threatened to arrest them before raping one of the women at gun point.

He was given a head sentence of eight years and two months, with a non-parole period of four years and six months backdated to when he was first taken into custody in December 2020.

Agravat sat emotionless as the court heard he would be deported to Kenya after he served his sentence.
