Police have arrested two Victorian men after they allegedly failed to comply with COVID-19 directions at a quarantine hotel in Adelaide.

Key points:

  • Victorian residents are prohibited from entering South Australia
  • Two men who arrived on a flight from Melbourne were staying at a medi-hotel
  • They have been charged with failing to comply with a direction

SA Police said the two men arrived on a flight from Melbourne today and were deemed prohibited travellers and directed to supervised quarantine at the Pullman hotel in Adelaide’s CBD.

Police alleged they were not wearing masks at the hotel and failed to return to their rooms when directed.

Officers wearing gas masks were seen putting the men into a police vehicle.

The 19-year-old and 21-year-old have been charged with failing to comply with a direction.

They have been refused bail to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Only Victorian residents living within 70 kilometres of the South Australian border can cross into the state, although South Australia’s Transition Committee is expected to discuss easing restrictions at a meeting on Thursday.

Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier today said Victoria had done a “fantastic job” in suppressing the state’s latest outbreak.

“We’ll be looking at this very favourably,” she said.

South Australia recorded one new locally acquired COVID-19 case today, in a person in quarantine whose relative had visited the Tenafeate Creek winery.
